Protection

Life assurance – A sum payable on the death of the life assured. Life assurance is absolutely necessary when someone has a mortgage or other borrowings. It’s also very important for someone who has a young family.

Serious Illness – A sum payable on diagnosis of a serious illness. An illness of this nature may keep someone out of work for 6 months or even a year e.g. cancer or a heart attack.

Income Protection or Permanent Health Insurance is the insurance that protects one’s income. It means one can have replacement income even if that person is no longer able to work. Tax relief on premiums means it’s normally not very expensive.

Accident Cover – This covers one for an accident that may put someone out of work for a number of weeks or months. Even sports injuries are covered here.

Hospital Cover – This is a replacement income for someone who has to spend more than 3 days in hospital.
